My first experience with BBQ Shrimp was when I was over at a friend’s house several years ago. Her family is originally from the New Orleans area so of course they know how to make some incredible Louisiana dishes. BBQ Shrimp is one of their family specialties with a secret recipe passed down from generations. Seriously, they kicked us out of the kitchen so we wouldn’t know what the secret ingredients were. At the time I thought, “Come on people, it’s not like we’re gonna steal your recipe.” But then I ate it…and oh my goodness…I absolutely would have stolen that recipe. And it was so good that I could’ve even sold that recipe for lots of money. No lie. It was absolutely one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. One ingredient that was not a secret was butter. We all had butter just dripping off our wrists as we at that incredible BBQ shrimp (classy, I know).
Sadly, that recipe is still a secret unknown to me, so I cannot share it with you. However, I did find this recipe for BBQ Shrimp which is actually from Weight Watchers. It’s not as amazingly delicious as that secret family recipe, but ya know what? It’s pretty darn good! I was very pleased with how it turned out, and it’s probably about 1000 calories lighter than that butter-heavy, authentic New Orleans recipe. This dish only takes a few minutes to throw together, which is awesome! Definitely a weeknight dinner your family will love.
