Thanksgiving is only a week away! My family is already planning the menu and delegating dishes to various family members. I think the dessert is the BEST thing to bring to a holiday meal (or really any gathering where food is involved). Whenever given the option to pick what I want to bring, I always choose dessert. I think it’s the part of the meal most people look forward to. I know that’s true for me at least.

This dessert, with its caramel apple flavors, is so Autumnal and perfect for Thanksgiving. Plus, it’s WAY better than your regular ol’ pumpkin pie (or pecan pie or even apple pie). And it’s certainly better than anything with cranberries (yuck!). I made this last year and it was a HUGE hit! Everyone was raving about it. Children were literally licking caramel off their plates. So as you’re making your Thanksgiving menu, be sure to include this as your dessert! Your family will love it!

  • Dough:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, room temp
  • Cream Cheese Filling:
  • 2 (8 oz) packages of cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • Apple Filling:
  • 2 large apples
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp white sugar
  • Crumb Topping:
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temp
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • caramel sauce

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F
  2. First we'll make the dough. In a bowl, combine the flour and brown sugar. Cut in the butter with a fork until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. Press the dough evenly into a sprayed 9x13 baking pan. Bake 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  4. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, beat the cream cheese with 1/2 cup sugar until smooth (about 1 minute). Add the eggs, 1 at a time (beat about 20 seconds after each addition). Next add the vanilla and mix until combined. Do not overbeat the batter (it could cause cracking later on).
  5. Remove the crust from the over, and pour the cream cheese batter on top. (The crust does not need to cool first).
  6. Peel the apples and chop them into 1/2 inch chunks.
  7. Mix apples with cinnamon and sugar. Disperse evenly over cream cheese mixture.
  8. Now make the crumb topping. In a small bowl, combine the flour, oats, and brown sugar. Cut in the butter using a fork, creating a crumbly texture. Sprinkle on top of the apples and cream cheese mixture.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes, or until filling is set.
  10. To serve, cut into bars and drizzle caramel topping on top.
