Helllooooooooo summer! Ok, so technically it’s still just the second week of May, meaning summer isn’t quite here yet. But still. The sun is out, the temps are rising, and I’m feeling the joy that comes along with my very favorite season. We’re taking advantage of this pleasantly warm (80 degree) weather before it turns oppressively hot outside and eating dinner out on the back porch most nights. We’re also using our grill to cook almost every meal!

We recently made these Grilled Creole BBQ Pork Chops and LOVED THEM. Like most grill meals, it’s super easy to make. Just rub on the spices, grill, and slather on the BBQ sauce. The secret that makes these so much better than your typical bbq pork chop is in the magical seasoning concoction. It gives the meat a flavorful kick in every bite!

The type of bbq sauce you choose will make a big difference too. I like a rich, sweet sauce to compliment the savory, spiced meat. We used my all-time favorite which is called Red Raider BBQ sauce from Texas Tech. I know – it’s weird that my sauce came from a university, but that junk is GOOD. My other favorite, that you’re more likely to find and purchase in a store is KC Masterpiece, which is good ‘n’ sweet, with a slight tang. If you prefer more spicy, or vinegar based sauces, then go for it! It’s totally up to you. Like I said, the real star of the show is the seasoning rub so just make sure you don’t use too much sauce to cover up the flavor of the spices.

These would be great for serving up at your summer backyard bbq parties, Memorial Day, 4th of July, or just any day!

Grilled Creole BBQ Pork Chops

Yields: 4 servings

Grilled Creole BBQ Pork Chops

  • 4 bone in 1/2 inch thick pork chops
  • 1/2 tablespoon creole seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce

  1. Mix seasoning blend together and set aside.
  2. Rinse pork chops and pat dry with a paper towel. Brush olive oil on both sides.
  3. Sprinkle the seasoning onto the pork and rub well into both sides.
  4. Allow pork to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Or even better, refrigerate several house up to overnight.
  5. Heat grill to medium low heat. Grill pork for about 4-6 minutes per side, or until done. Brush on BBQ sauce just before removing from grill.

Instead of grilling, you could easily bake these instead. Preheat oven to 400 and bake for about 20 minutes or until done. Then brush on bbq sauce and broil in the oven for another 1 to 2 minutes.

  1. Hello Lindsay,
Do you think I could put these on a rack in the oven? This rub sounds soooo good, cant wait to try.

I’m sure you could! In fact, I’ll add a note to the recipe about baking instead. Thanks Linda!

If you want to try it without the other spices and just increase the Creole seasoning, please let us know how it turns out! All I know is that the combination of spices listed tasted superb.
