Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day! Though not a national holiday, Valentine’s does give couples a special day to express their love to one another. And what better way to do that than FOOD?! In my opinion, Valentine’s day isn’t as much about the gifts or the candy or the flowers…it’s all about the food. If I want to show my husband that I really love him, to me nothing says that better than a well planned, fancy, and even laborious dinner. Each year I try to go above and beyond for our Valentine’s dinner. And I’ll admit, it isn’t always “normal” cooking, because I do look for more fancy, not your everyday run-of-the-mill recipes. But I’ve listed (in no particular order) some dishes for you in case you want to surprise your sweetie with some decadent food!
First of all, DESSERT. Everyone knows that V-day is all about the chocolate. And dessert is by far the most important part of any romantic dinner.
1. Red Velvet Brownies
I actually made these for Christmas, but hey, if you leave off the green sprinkles, it’s just red for love, baby. These are sssooo rich and delicious!
2. Fudge Lovers’ Strawberry Truffle Cake
This cake is simply divine. The chocolate cake is very dense and rich, but the strawberries just bring it to life! It’s also a very pretty cake to display!
3. Flourless Chocolate Cake
Unlike the previous cake, this one is slightly less pretty for displaying, with it’s crispy, cracked exterior. However, it is every bit as delicious. I felt like a real pro chef with this dessert.
4. Chocolate Bundles with Ganache
This is definitely the easiest and quickest of the desserts posted here. It’s outrageously simple, but you’d never know it from the finished product!
Now we’ll move on to the 2nd most important part of dinner…the main dish. These are just a few examples of entrees that would be excellent for a romantic dinner for two!
1. Spinach Stuffed Chicken
If you’re looking for an impressive Italian dish to fix for your sweetheart, then I recommend this one! The filling inside of the chicken just brings this whole dish together. And who doesn’t love tons of goeey cheese?
2. Herb Roasted Lamb Chops
These are seriously the best thing I’ve ever cooked. The meat practically melted in my mouth. This recipe is better than any lamb I’ve ever had at a restaurant (and that includes some fairly swanky ones).
3. Honey Dijon Salmon
This is one fancy dish that doesn’t take too long to prepare. The glaze on this salmon will rock your world. Plus, this is a great meal for people who don’t want to blow their diet on Valentine’s Day and want something a little lighter.
4. Stuffed Steak Pinwheels
This dish looks like it took you hours to prepare, but it’s actually a fairly quick meal. With steak and bacon involved, this dish is sure to be a winner.
5. Pepper and Garlic Crusted Filet Mignon with Port Wine Sauce
While the picture is not very good quality, the opposite is true of this dish. It’s packed with flavor and really shows that you wanted to impress him/her for Valentine’s!
